Songs for Advent
The waiting for Jesus' coming in time and the readiness for his eschatological return as judge and saviour are at the centre of the Advent season. Both themes complement each other almost contrapuntally and contribute to the Advent liturgical dramaturgy of the four weeks of Advent, the musical realisation of which is the theme of this concert.
Les Escapades present contemplative Advent songs and music of the 16th and 17th centuries. Songs such as "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland", "Mit Ernst, o Menschenkinder", "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" alternate with instrumental pieces by Johann Grabbe, Johann Schop and others.
